Shoe Story

In March I wore the above shoe hat to a Mad Hatters Tea Party. I was supposed to be the dormouse for the evening so I thought a shoe on my head would be appropriate.

The party was a themed night for the Toastmasters Club that I am in.

Sacrifice

I loved this book from the very first line. “The corpse I could cope with. It was the context that threw me.”

Sacrifice is about a consultant surgeon Tora Hamilton who lives on one of the Shetland Islands. Tora loves her horses and the novel begins with Tora on a hillside in the rain digging a hole to bury her favourite horse Jamie.

Tora uncovers a body of a woman, perfectly preserved except for her missing heart which had been ripped out.

The woman’s body is examined and three rune marks are discovered carved into her body. During the autopsy other disturbing facts about the woman are revealed which link the woman’s death to an ancient Shetland legend.

Tora becomes involved and uncovers information which results in terrifying threats and unexpected discoveries.

Spider Light

I loved this thriller. It is a history of a small village Amberwood and some of the inhabitants. The book covers a period of about a hundred years. There is an old house, a cottage, an old mill and an Asylum. There are imprints from the past in the old buildings and noises that just won't go away.

Antonia Weston stays in a small cottage for a holiday to get over a tragedy but someone does not want her to forget.
